Reference tables for choosing steel
Classifications, weight tables, calculation formulas and chemical composition tables covering the different stages of steel production.
Steel Bar Weight Formulas
With sizes entered in millimetres, these give the approximate weight in kilograms of one metre of bar.
Density of Some Metals (relative to steel)
| Material | Factor |
|---|---|
| Aluminium bronze | 0.981 |
| Copper | 1.131 |
| Lead | 1.431 |
| Aluminium | 0.341 |
| Bronze | 1.111 |
| Gunmetal (red brass) | 1.121 |
| Grey cast iron | 0.921 |
| Phosphor bronze | 1.121 |
Steel = 1. To find the weight of the same size in another material, multiply the steel weight from the formulas by the factor in the table.
Size & Weight Tables
Because they hold so many figures, the tables are shown as images of the originals. Click a table to enlarge it. The tables have Turkish headings: dış çap = outside diameter, et kalınlığı = wall thickness, genişlik = width, kalınlık = thickness, yuvarlak = round, kare = square, altıköşe = hexagon.
Chemical Composition Tables
Chemical composition ranges and typical uses of carbon, case-hardening, free-cutting and quenched and tempered steels. Click a heading to open the table.
